Surviving the End of the World to Create a New You

Surviving the End of the World to Create a New You
December 21, 2012 by Katie Bauer

“And I would like to say that according to the Mayan Calendar the 21st of December marks the end of the time and the beginning of no-time. It is the end of the Macha & the beginning of the Pacha. It is the end of selfishness & the beginning of brotherhood. It is the end of individualism & the beginning of collectivism… the 21st of December this year.

The scientists know very well that this marks the end of an anthropocentric life and the beginning of a biocentric life. It is the end of hatred and the beginning of love. The end of lies and the beginning of truth. It is the end of sadness and the beginning of joy. It is the end of division and the beginning of unity.”

― Evo Morales, President of Bolivia to the UN General Assembly, on Dec 21, 2012

First, I want to congratulate you on making it here… to the other side of the “end of the world!” All this talk of the end of the world and all I can think of is that REM song—“it’s the end of the world…and I feel fine….” But maybe the world did end—the world as we knew it. Just as the cells in our bodies are constantly in a state of evolution, dying and rebirthing to create a completely different cellular makeup every 7 years, so must the world change and everything about how we interact with that world.

Perhaps now is the time when unhealthy competition has died and we are awakened to heal the planet and heal ourselves from this last century of ego, individualism and straight-up drama! What part of you are you ready to “let die”? What part of you no longer can serve this new world? What part of you are you ready to let go of? Instead of fighting this end, this change, just let it go and in its place something new will birth.

Maybe 12/21/2012 marks the end of smoking for you. That part of you done and you are done with that part of you. Or perhaps 12/21/2012 marks the end of you choosing to not live your life to its fullest. Whether today marked the end of the world (your world) as we knew it or whether the end of December marks the end of another year, now is the time to let something go that no longer serves you and allow something new to take its place.

I challenge you this week to sit down and list out what in your life—your choices, your behaviors, your mental patterns—no longer serve you and no longer serve a world based on health, truth, biocentrism and love. Whether this is the dawning of a new world or it’s just time for you to care enough about yourself to change, it doesn’t matter. What a truly incredible world it could be if we all were willing to be more fully ourselves and to recognize our power, our beauty and our capacity for love.

The first step is to figure out, what no longer serves you and commit to relinquishing that. You must believe in yourself to care enough about yourself to commit to creating a new you. What is it going to take to make 2013 your most powerful, magnetic, energetic and healthiest year yet? Take the steps to do it. If there was ever momentum to create true change in you, it is this year when so many are looking to see a new world.

Inspiring and timely, love it. This has been a year of many changes for me and you’ve motivated me now to sit down and make a list of them. Now’s the perfect time to carry those changes forward into and spur forth the new. Thanks Katie!

Thanks so much Robine! I am so glad that you feel inspired to get on your list. There is something so empowering about letting go. When we do let go, it leaves open space for something better to come into our lives.

Well done Katie! I think this really rare time in history is such an opportunity to create a whole new world and, of course, it begins with the self. The energies are aligned for this and so much good is ready to pour into us if we are just open to it. I love your method of doing this!

I think the end of the Mayan Calendar is a “Macro-solstice”–a return to the light for humanity, and the end of cycle for the Collective Consciousness on the Earth. Apparently, living Mayan Elders have stated something to that effect! I’m glad to be alive at this time to experience this shift, if that’s what it turns out to be!

“A return to the light for humanity.” I like that! I agree–what an exciting time to live in. Thanks for sharing that David!

Katie – Like you, I review the challenges of past year and reflect on my successes. I’m ready to relinquish old habits and patterns that don’t help me move forward…and embrace those that do. Let’s make 2013 the most abundant year yet!

Congratulations Andrea! I think breaking old patterns and habits are one of the best things we can do to make our lives more abundant and happy. I am excited for what 2013 holds for us!

Thank you Katie. I am told that the coming year is the year of the Black Water Snake in the Chinese calendar .. signifying big change, big success .. but only for those who plan and who are meticulous in their strategies. A good thing for our biz as this is the first year we have even considered a strategic plan, let alone sat down for days to map one one out. Blessings to you for the New Year!

I didn’t know that about the Black Water Snack in the Chinese calendar. That is exciting indeed and inspirational! Congratulations on mapping out your strategic plan for your business. I have pulled out my last strategic plan which I’m embarrassed to say was updated from 2 years ago (not last year) and have started revising it, but haven’t come even close to finishing it yet. Caitriona, your comment is such a great reminder that I need to get on that–meticulousness ahead!

Katie, What a beautiful post. I really like the idea of making a list of what no longer serves me. Most of the time I just think about stuff and don’t get too serious in letting it go. I also like what Caitriona says about sitting down and mapping out a plan. I usually do not take the time to do these important tasks and just keep going. So wonderful to read this post. I would like to share it on my fb page.

Very timely post. It’s definitely the end of the world as I’ve known it. My word for 2013 is ‘release’ — release fear, release stuff, release shoulds. I am SO excited to move forward into the new year … I can just FEEL all of the good things coming!

Ahh yes. “Release” is definitely a much more gentle way of saying “let die!” 🙂 I think I was feeling a little morbid when I wrote this article as it was the day after the supposed “end.” I like “release!” Wow–and what some great releases you have offered up! The releasing of shoulda’s is an intense one for me too and like you I am working on releasing fear or maybe not releasing it but riding it and doing it regardless-relishing the fear! I too am so excited for 2013 and so appreciative that you have shared your “releasing”. Thanks and Happy New Years!

Beautiful post, Katie. I’ve had many reminders over the last couple of months about strategic planning and knowing exactly where I want to go in 2013. But the part about letting go of what’s not working and actually leaving behind the habits and attitudes that keep me from acting on my strategic plan–that’s really easy for me to forget. It’s already January 2 as I’m reading this, and I’m adding a “what I need to release” section to my strategic plan for business and life!

I agree Dorine. It is so easy to fall into the habit of only setting goals for the future and forgetting that some of the things we take into the future don’t serve us. This momentous time is a great opportunity to leave some things behind so we can face our plans lighter, without the burdens of unsupportive baggage weighing us down as we attempt to rush toward our success. Happy New Year and a New World!
